What role does trust play in the spiritual seeker’s life? Is there more to the spiritual path than just following what we hear along the way?

In this Satsang excerpt, Vishrant talks about the issue of belief vs trust, one of the main traps for spiritual people and how to be free from it.

Vishrant:

And I have to say, I don’t know. One thing about spirituality that you really need to get through to you is never ever believe anything. Always check it out for yourself. Always make sure it’s your own direct experience.

Don’t ever believe anybody. And then it’s safe. The biggest problem you can get in spirituality is believing without experiencing, without knowing because all beliefs are kind of prisons.

One of my teachers said to me before I was teaching, he said, “Look, if you’re going to teach, only tell people what you know is your direct experience in the moment and then you’ll never get caught out, you’ll never make a mistake.” And that was pretty good advice.

If it’s not your own direct knowing, put it in the maybe column and investigate it. This is the way of the seeker.

Thank you for Satsang. Good to see you brave hearts here tonight.
